Anatomy--with stock

Description

So my laptop decided it doesn't like art.
At all.
SO NOW IM USING MY IPAD.
Tuesday will be the biggest miracle ever orz
I'll talk a bit about the 'tutorial' here. Numbers correspond with the pictures.
1) when using stock images, NEVER trace. You end up with an image that doesn't have a flowing feeling to it--almost dead, or posed. Remember, stock is to help with pose IDEAS, shading help, and ANATOMY. They're not free for all tracing bases!!

2) this was made by tracing the 'main' joints/parts, like head, rib cage, elbows, hands, knees, ect., drawn in ice blue. More defined rib cage and hips were drawn later, free hand, with a darker blue. Purple is for the limbs closest to the camera, green for farther away, everything other than ice blue was drawn free hand. Most stock providers will allow for something like this--as long as you don't directly copy the whole base. Check descriptions though!

3) this was made entirely free hand. Ice blue for guide lines, darker blue for skin. Guides were added to the actual stock images well. These hell to keep proportions in check. (Sorry for lazy hands btw xD)

4) FACES. This shows how using face stocks can be helpful. We all know the basic lines for faces, but different expressions change the face a LOT. Some basic rules though: the nose aligns with the ear and is as long as the ear. Bottom of eyes are around the middle of the head. Mouth is halfway between the bottom of the nose and the chin.
"Ariel" is what happens when you trace stock faces. Even though I traced a woman's face, the final product looks masculine. Practice makes perfect, but cheating gets you no where! Stocks are fun and helpful, but going too far can hurt the over all look of your work. For artists trying to improve, stocks are a great REFERENCE.

Stocks used belong to their original owners, and were used/traced for teaching purposes.
Stocks used can be found here>> :icondaposes:
If you would like some great stock reference people, let me know!
(Sorry for another crappy upload. They will get better I promise >3> )

Thanks ! I didn't know some of this rules about the face and the placing of the ears etc. I often don't place them quite right.
